Hair Color with Hair Extensions

Hair extensions can be a fun beauty enhancer to try. Brides use hair extensions for their wedding day. Dancers use hair extensions to get into character roles. Average women use hair extensions for changing up hair styles. Hair extensions allow volume and creativety and length to those desiring more from a hair style. If it is color that you are wanting to add, hair extensions can compensate for this type of change as well. If you are purchasing human hair, most bundles may come in it's natural form of virgin remy human hair. This hair has not been touched as far as chemically processed or altered in a chemical way. Just like your own natural hair, actual human hair extensions can be treated much of the same way. Before you head to the drug store or contact your colorist, you will have a few decisions to make. If you decide to color at home, you may need a hair dye and a developer. Even if you go this route to dying your hair at home, still contact a professional and or do your research. The internet is one portal with a vast amount of information that may be helpful. Color is one of the first choices that will have to be made. You may also want to stay away from bleach or colors with such harsh ingredients as this too can cause dryness to your human hair extensions. You will need to consider your current hair color as well. Also, take into considration that two shades darker is average for coloring hair extensions. If these are new extensions, you may want to wash the extensions first, then let the extensions air dry naturally. When the hair is dry, you can apply your dye or mixture. To make sure the color mixture is evenly spread, use a comb to comb through the mixture on each strand of the hair. The next step will be to let the hair dry flat on a towel or similar material. This processing time should be listed as part of your instructions on the box or packaging. Once the processing time is complete, wash or rinse the hair and then dry the hair on a flat surface naturally. Just like your own hair, you will want to condition the hair extension with a good conditioner. Comb through the hair to mae sure there is equal distribution of the conditioner. Repeat the rinse cycle and let the hair air dry before applying or having the extensions applied in your head.
